[Hsinchu] Welcome Party

On Sunday afternoon March 20th, the WLEF Chan Meditation Club in Hsinchu hosted a Welcome Party at the National Chiao-Tung University International Corner for all our members to introduce our club and to have fun together.
About 30 people showed up on the Welcome Party.

Thanks to all the people who came to enjoy a nice afternoon with us!
Now, let's look at some photos and review our fun activities!

Look at the nice bar area with all the delicious refreshments labelled.
Karen is our beautiful host of the day.

And our first program is... BOBEE Dance~
BOBEE, BOBEE, BOBEE, OH!
JUSTIN, you are a star!!!
...and now, it's time for everyone to try it!
Mauricio says to Lari: I'm a great dancer! You'll see.

Looks like everybody is getting the hang of it! Everybody is a great dancer!

And next, Teresa and Tar introduce ICE-BREAKING GAMES!
Who receives the PRIZE OF RECOGNITION?!!

In the 16-grid bingo game, everyone needs to find others to answer each question in order to complete each grid. A great way to break the ice!

The next game is a little complicated.
Tar is explaining the rules.
...while everyone listens attentively.
Finally, Teresa interviewed many people and they all got the PRIZE OF RECOGNITION. ^^b

Next up, we have a MAGIC SHOW!

The beautiful magician shows us a rope trick. Quite amazing!
She also made water disappear!
Another clever magician came to show us card tricks.
Thanks a lot, magicians!!

And then, most importantly, Eddyson introduces our club.
He shares his experience about meditation and also shares with us news articles about many proven benefits of meditation.

Teresa introduces a new activity, the Reading Club Meetings, taking place bi-weekly since 4/17.

Mauricio also shares his experience as a new meditation practitioner since last semester. It was great to see people benefitting from meditation. Mauricio even prepared a very detailed and clear power point presentation for his sharing. Very good!!

Finally, we break into groups and chat about meditation.
In the end, most people responded very positively in our questionnaire. Many also became members of the Chan Meditation Club and registered for the weekly class.

2011Chinese New Year Celebration

According to Chinese tradition, people return to their parents' home to gather together with all the brothers and sisters at least once a year to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It is a festive time to recharge oneself in the joyous atmosphere of the family reunion and to look to great prospects of the future.

On February 12th, all the Chan practitioners from all over Taiwan gathered together for an annual reunion with the Chan Master Wu Jue Miao Tian to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
We came to Nangang Exhibition Hall. And there were more than 10,000 people gathered together!

Outside the entrance of the celebration, we already feel a festive atmosphere.

At the celebration, the main stage is huge!

Sand painting performance: The artist paints with sand and outlines the story of the lineage of Chan Masters, from the Buddha to the Sixth Patriarch Huike to our current 85th Chan Patriarch Wu Jue Miao Tian. Each Chan Patriarch is associated with an image representing a special story or theme.

And the image of our current Master is a globe, signifying the Master’s wish to adhere to Buddha’s great vow to turn the earth into pure land.
